This book discusses the significant role dogs play in human life and various aspects of their inborn and acquired skills used for human needs. The man-dog relationship is not limited to services rendered by the latter. The dog is often the source of joy to its owner and his or her best friend. Favourable effect of dog's company on childern's and adults' is used in therapy of ill children (e.g. Autistic ones) and aged people as well as in treatment of other disorders and diseases. Dog's proverbial loyalty, obedience, ability to learn and remember acquired skills and habits are used by men to train dogs to work. Men have fully utilized the most important biological predispositions of dogs (excellant hearing, perfect smell and sight, bravery and obedience) to accept various roles. They serve in many specialized fields of economy and social life, substituting for various technical devices and especially helping men out. Dogs work as draught animals, in mountain and water life-saving, shepherding, hunting, guiding the blind, tracking in security services, helping the disabled, but-first of all-keeping company to adults and children
