This paper analyzes development of self propelled forage harvesters and increase of engine power, material flow, and quality of work and fuel consumption. Paper presents engine power increase as result of development of new technical solutions of self propelled forage harvesters. Special attention was paid to technical design of maize headers and complete chopping systems, as well as influence of these designs to quality of chopped material - forage. This paper also presents test results of performed by DLG as well as the first experiences with Krone Big X V8 forage harvester in company PIK Becej Poljoprivreda a.d., Serbia.
