As part of the Zicko Polje Source Rehabilitation Project, a field tracer test was performed by instantaneous injection of 1.5 kg of phenols and 300 kg of NaCl into an infiltration pit, and simultaneous pumping of water from a well which was located some 70 m away from the infiltration pit. The test was performed by recirculation (pumping of water from the well and returning it into the pit) over the course of 25 consecutive days. Following this period of time, the water from the well was discharged into the Ibar river. Mathematical simulations were then performed, applying a numerical model and one-, two- and three-layer aquifer schematization. It was determined that advection was the dominant factor of chloride ion transport. A significant phenol degradation process was registered during the test and model analyses indicated a phenol half-life of 5 days.
