Effect of changes in water-physical properties of the solonetz soil in consequence to phosphogypsum application on wheat yield and yield components was studied in a trial established on a natural grassland stretching between the Tisza river and the communication Kumane-Elemir-Aradac, in a location Vanj near the village of Kumane, Serbia, in 1981. The trial included variants with different levels of phosphogypsum (25 and 50 t/ha) and the distances between drainage pipes of 10 and 20 m. All variants were subsoiled to the depth of 50 cm and received 60 t/ha of manure. Field crops grown in the trial received conventional cultivation practices. The obtained results indicated that the applied ameliorative practices increased te productivity of the solonetz soil. Increases were registered in yield level and individual yield components. Effect of year as a source of phenotypic variability was intesified. The results indicated that the application of complex ameliorative practices enables solonetz to produce satisfactory yields of wheat.
