Neem - Azadirachta indica A. Juss. (fam. Meliaceae) is an evergreen, woody plant originating from Decan, an Indian region under forest, tropical and subtropical African areas, north-eastern Asia and Australia. The plant protects itself from a serious of insects owing to a number of alkaloids having an insecticide effect. Out of 1 g of stones, 2-4 mg azadirachtin is obtained, and the samples from Senegal yield 9 mg during extraction. Investigations over the past twenty years have shown that IGR and antifeedant is probably the best of botanical insecticides. Under conditions of Serbia, preliminary investigations proved its efficacy in controlling apple green leaf aphid Aphis pomi De Geer. and Dyaphis spp. The application of the stated insecticide is desirable in terms of integrated control owing to its tolerance to mammals and useful entomofauna.
