Skeels leaves, family Myrtaceae collected from various natural sources in Nakorn pathom and Nonthaburi Provinces were studied on antibacterial activity and chemical quality. It was found that the crude drug of good quality for medicinal purpose should contain tannins, which possessed astringent activity, not less than 6.0 percent w/w. Volatile oil content, obtained from this crude drug and showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923). Bacillus subtilis, Shigella dysenteriae and Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor should not be less than 0.5 percent v/w as well as the moisture content should not be more than 8.0 percent v/w.
