Chemical fertilizer usage and potential of sunflower production in clay soils in Nakorn Sawan and Lop Buri province

Effect of chemical fertilizer on sunflower yield in clay soils were studied at farmer fields in Nakhon Sawan province in 2000. The experimental design was randomized complete block with 4 replications. Treatment consisted of 4 rates of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer which were 0, 5, 10, 20 kg/rai of N and P2O5 respectively. Potassium treatment consisted of 0, 2.5, 5, 10, kg K2O/rai. Sunflower variety Pacific 33 was grown at a spacing of 75*25 cm. 1 plant/hill with a plot size of 4.5*5 m. and harvested area of 3*4 m. Result from the experiment showed nitrognen fertilizer significant in sunflower growth and yield. Apparently, marked yield response to fertilized was observed at 5 kg N/rai. Nevertheless, there were no significant differences in sunflower yield as the effect of phosphate and potash fertilizer. Survey data on sunflower production at farmer fields in Nakhon Sawan and Lop Buri province were carried out in 2000. Result showed that the soil at survey sites were brown-back clay soils which high fertile. Sunflower variety Pacific were broadcast in October, no chemical fertilization were observed.The mean yield of sunflower on Nakorn Sawan and Lop buri province were 133 and 152 kg/rai, respectively.
