This paper presents the history of wind energy technology, present technology, wind energy potential in Thailand, wind theory, different types of wind turbine generator technology, main components, the advantages and disadvantages of each technology, and wind turbine impact. The information in this paper would benefit and attract the interest of Thai people to realize the importance of wind energy. Although wind turbine generator technology has been developed for the past 100 years, it still requires more time before it can be successfully replaced the present power generation technology. In the future, the energy use will be variously increased but energy from fossil fuel will be decreased because of environmental impact. The ratio of renewable energy use such as solar energy, hydropower, biomass and wind energy will be increased. In Thailand, current knowledge about wind energy technology is still limited and there is not much high potential of wind energy when compared to other countries. However, wind energy could produce an electricity in the kilowatt scale. Today, if we begin to do research and development on this technology, we may be able to produce wind energy in the future without depending on such technologies from abroad.
