Preliminary study on efficacy of Careya sphaerica Roxb water-extract (CSE) in combination with diclazuril was performed in chickens orally inoculated with 5*10**(4) oocysts of Eimeria tenella. Two milliliters of CSE at concentration of 200 g/L was given orally to chickens for 3 consecutive days after an inoculation. In addition, diclazuril at concentration of 5 ppm was also given at the same period by adding in drinking water for 48 hours. Efficacy of the combination was examined from clinical signs, survival rate, caecal lesion score and body weight gain. The results indicated that chicken inoculated with only E. tenella and those given only CSE showed a clinical sign of bloody diarrhea. The survival rate of all groups was 100 percent. Caecal lesion score of chickens given only CSE was highest (3.03+-0.67) when compared to others (p LT 0.05), while those given only diclazuril had a lowest lesion score (1.53+-0.31). Chickens given a combination of CSE and diclazuril had a highest of body weight gain (71.33 g+-16.29), although there is no difference in FCR among all groups (p GT 0.05). This study indicated that CSE at the concentration of 200 g/L had no caecal coccidiosis, while diclazuril yielded high efficacy.
