Improving the quality of reclaimed soils requires an active population of microorganisms that enable the nutrient cycle as well as the accessibility of nutrients for plants. Increasing the activity of microorganisms can be done by adding nutrients and improving substances, making agrotechnical soil improvements, and using bio-preparations. At the spoil bank of the Merkur coal mine (North Bohemia coal basin), we are testing a combined inoculation with P-solubilizing bacteria, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi - (AMF) and nitrogen fixing bacteria Azotobacter and Rhizobium. In this work we focused on the survival and the mutual influence of the number of bacteria in different variants of inoculation and fertilisation. Currently, evaluation of the influence of these inoculations on the growth of plants is underway. When comparing the number of Azotobacter before inoculation (samples were taken shortly after fertilisation), there was a statistically significant increase in the number of Azotobacter in the variant fertilized with 400 t/ha compost as compared to none fertilised control. It is likely that the increase in the number of Azotobacter was caused by the added organic matter (400 t/ha compost). After inoculation the number of Azotobacter increased statistically significantly in all the variants of the fertilization. The effect of inoculation and fertilisation (in samples taken 2 months after inoculation) on the number of Azotobacter and P-soiubilizing bacteria was processed by the statistical method of analysis of double sorting variance. According to results, the numbers of P-solubilizing bacteria were affected by both fertilisation and inoculation. The numbers of Azotobacter were significantly affected by inoculation only. The result of the analysis of variance may be encumbered with an error caused by inhomogeneity of variance
