Research results of evaluation of varieties and hybrids of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) world gene pool material and revelation of cultivars with agronomic characters for the Republic of Belarus were presented. Three year investigation of productivity, starch content, resistance to late blight and viral diseases and taste qualities of 44 foreign potato cultivars was realized. Middle-ripening and middle-late varieties (Triada, Dorina, Vistula), variety samples (Kolobok, Balbina, Orlan, Donar, Krasa, Baszta, Omulev) and early maturing varieties (Albina, Aster, Korneta, Debora, PS-1692 and Costanera) were characterized as high-yielding cultivars. Starch content in the majority of studied varieties was within very low (10%), low (12,1-14,0%) and average (16,1-18,0%) values. Cedron, Belosnezhka, Dunaets and Yantar’ cultivars showed higher starch content than the standard ones. Albina, Balbina, Mors, Korela, Triada, Tara, Bernadetta, Tabor, Lawina, Vistula, Krasa, Korallovyj, Yantar’, PS-1994, Costanera, Dorina, Baszta, PS-1692, Anya, Korneta, Omulev, Koga, Alvara, Donar, Orlan varieties and hybrids did not have external features of viral diseases in the field conditions. PS-1694 and Alvara samples had relatively high resistance to late blight in the laboratory conditions. Vistula, Mors, Snowden, Novan cultivars had high taste qualities and non-darkening flesh
