The influence of recovery from the complex of virus diseases on photosynthetic characteristics of Saaz semi-early red bine hop (Osvald clone No. 72) was investigated during the years 2001 and 2002. Photosynthetic rate, leaf pigment content and energy content in different aboveground parts were determined. Recovered plants showed higher photosynthetic rate in comparison with the non-recovered ones (8.44 micromol CO2/square m/s vs. 5.78 micromol CO2/square m/s on average). Plant recovery didn't influence the changes in leaf pigment contents caused by the weather. The net energy values were higher in recovered than in non-recovered plants (16.33 kJ/g vs. 16.00 kJ/g on average in 2001 and 16.25 kJ/g vs. 16.11 kJ/g on average in 2002). The highest average values were determined in hop cones, the lowest ones in hop bines.
