Current research studied the effect of inoculation of growth promoting leaf microbial consortia (GPLMC) on maize growth in Ultisols. The microbial consortium contained microbes from old leaves Tetramerista glabra, intermediate leaves of Tristania maingayi, and young leaves of Macaranga mucronata. The three GPLMC were selected from 57 leaf microbial consortium of various vegetations found in black water ecosystem of Central Kalimantan. Those microbes were either inoculated to maize seeds or sprayed onto 1- and 2- week(s) old maize leaves. The results of this study showed that inoculation of various GPLMC with various methods of application increased shoot dry weight, but did not always increase root dry weight. The GPLMC from Tetramerista glabra sprayed onto 2 weeks old maize leaves was the best microbial consortium in increasing shoot and dry weight as weel as N and P content.
