1994
Jam Zad, Ziba
Species belonging to Lamiaceae in Iran were identified, their geographical distribution and habitats were also distinguished. Illustrations were prepared as black and white drawings for a number of species. An identification key was prepared for the genera. The family is present in Iran with 46 genera and 400 species. The more frequent species belong to genera Nepeta , Salvia and stachys with 80, 66 and 43 species respectively. There are 13 genera with only one species, from which the endemic monotypic genus Zhumeria with Z. majdae occuring only in southern Iran in Hormozgan Province. The other genera of this group are as follows: Chamaesphacos, Hypogomphia, Hyssopus, Leonorus, Lycopus, Mellisa, Molucella, Origanum, Peria, Phlomidoschema, Thymbra and Zataria. 18 new taxa were described which have been published in 10 papers ( Jamzad and Assadi, 1987Jamzad, 1988, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, Jamzad et al. 2003). The new species are as follows: Ajuga saxicolaEremostachys lanataLagochilus quadridentatusL. aucheri subsp. HeterophylusMentha mozaffarianiiNepeta assadiiN. balouchestanicaN. binaloudensisN. bokhonicaN. hormozganicaN. mahanensisN. makuensisN. minuticephalaN. pogonospermaN. shahmirzadensisSatureja kallaricaS. khuzistanica and S. rechingeri. Furthermore molecular phytochemical, and palynological studies were done in the genus Nepeta. Four papers were published on these topics (Jamzad et al. 2000, 2003a, 2003b and 2003c). Based on molecular, phytochemical and morphological data a new subgeneric classification was founded. The genus Drepanocaryum was included in Nepeta and Betonica in Stachys. Referring to recent researches on the family, the genus was considered in Lamiaceae ( Cantino et al. 1992).
