The experiment were conduted on date palm (phoenix dactylifera) kabkab cv. at Shabankareh (85 km north of Bushehr) to study the .effects of bunch thining methods on quality and quantity of fruits. Uniform trees were selected and six bunch were imposed with the following treatments: - Reduction of one third of strand- tip. -Reduction of one third of central strands -Reduction of ten percentage of central and tip strands - Reduction of one third of central and tip strands. - Reduction of one third of centeral strands in chimiri stage. - Control (without thining). The experiment is carried out in two succesive years (1997-1998) at a completely randomized block design with four replication. The two years data were pulled to gether for analysis. Thining had significant effects on size and quality of Kabkab date fruits. The results shown effects of year was not significant and the effects year- treatment interaction was not significant except for fruit length. Reducing of fruits number by one third (central and strand- tip ) thining increased fruit weight, length and fruit quality, however, this treatment reduced yield which were significantly different when compared with control. Thining in chimiri stage had not significant effects on fruit quantity and quality when compared with pollination stage. Although removel of one third of strands reduced yield , this treatment increased desirable fruits in top grads.
