In order to investigating two new durum wheat cultivars yield response to split and foliar application of nitrogen, an experiment was conducted during 2002-2004 growing seasons. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design adopting split-factorial arrangement. Three factors including a:variety (Aria and Tarro3 of b: Nitrogen application (2, 3 and 4 times) c: foliar application nitrogen (one time at anthesis) were splited. Combined analysis of data revealed that Aria and Tarro3 cultivars significantly differs in grain yield and 1000 grain weight, protein yield and percent, anage grain per spike and yellow berry characteristics. Tarro3 had higher grain weight and yield as well as protein yield compared to Aria. However, Aria showed higher protein content. Split application of nitrogen significantly affected grain weight and hardiness as well as yellow berry. Four times split application of nitrogen at sowing date, stem elongation, pollination, anthesis and grain filling stages had highest effect on grain quality. One time foliar application at Anthesis stage could significantly increase grain yield, protein yield and decrease yellow berry. Foliar application of nitrogen at the rate of 3% at anthesis stage could significantly increase grain quality and quantity and is recommended. Most significant effect of nitrogen spray was observed on yellow berry percent reduction.
