Trends in the carbon quantity transferred from forests to the populated area of Japan: Estimates from timber supply and demand statistics
2007
Takagi, M. | Takeda, H. | Okano, T.
We calculated the carbon quantity stored inside timber which has been brought to our living environment from forests, using timber supply and demand statistics. In the year 2004, a total of 7,575 kilotons of carbon was transferred from domestic and foreign forests in the form of timber to the populated area of Japan. Although the basic density differs with species of timber, statistics show that the mean density remained almost constant over the years 1976 to 2004. Thus we can evaluate the transferred carbon quantity based on the total volume of timber produced in Japan as well as imported from overseas.
