We performed a study about an easy, inexpensive and precise method to measure fungi in the air supplied from an air-conditioner. The measurement precision of the method using an air sampler is high but expensive. On the other hand, the method of fixing an open petri dish under the outcoming air, in the so called simple method, is easy and inexpensive. However, the measurement precision has not been examined and we could not estimate the degree of the influence of the air conditioner to the room precisely. Therefore we developed a conversion value (alpha) that enables the calculation of the number of fungal colonies precisely by using the simple method. We could express this conversion value (alpha) with alpha=ns/n=2.12(n/v)sup(-083). This formula depends on the number of fungal colonies (n [cfu/min]) measured by the simple method and the velocity of the outcoming air (v[m/min]) on the petri dish. (ns [cfu/min]) is the number of fungal colonies measured by the air sampler. By using this formula, we could measure the number of fungal colonies and fungal species in the outcoming air, and could estimate the degree of the influence to the room by using air conditioner easily, inexpensively and precisely.
