The effect of different in vitro culture conditions, such as heterotrophic, mixotrophic and photoautotrophic conditions, on the growth of carnation propagules were investigated. Height, number of nodes, fresh weight and dry weight were higher in photoautotrophic condition than in the heterotrophic or mixotrophic condition. Microstructure of abaxial leaf surface of propagules grown in different culture conditions were observed. Wax layer was observed in the propagule leaves grown in the greenhouse, and under photoautotrophic and mixotrophic conditions. However, it was not observed in propagule leaves grown under a heterotrophic condition.
