Prevalence of endo and ecto- parasites in cattle and buffaloes in Muridkey, Sheikhupura

A field study was conducted to determine the prevalence of endo and ecto-parasites in cattle and buffaloes in Muridkey, Sheikhupura, Punjab. Samples were randomly collected from different areas from June to December 2006. A total of five hundred (500), 250 each from buffaloes and cattle were collected and examined for the prevalence of parasites in fecal and skin scrapings. The overall prevalence of endo and ecto-parasites in cattle and buffaloes was 160 (49.23%), 90 (51.42%) and 165(50.76%), 85 (48.57%) respectively. The prevalence of endo-parasites in cattle was recorded as trematodes (42.80%), nematodes (26.25%) and cestodes (12.50%) While in buffalo it was recorded trematodes (43.67%), nematodes (33.33%) and cestodes (7.87%). The prevalence of ecto-parasites in cattle was recorded ticks (57.77%), lice (34.44%) and mites (6.66%) while in buffalo it was recorded ticks (54.11 %), lice (32.94%), and mites (10.58%) respectively.
