The aim of the paper was to present the productivity of selected perennial crops growth for energy and specifying the methods of biomass utilization. Currently, solid biomass in Poland comes from: forest residues, agricultural residues, wood processing factories and green area residues. In the close future balance of biomass on the market will be supplemented by biomass harvested on short-rotation plantations of willow, Virginia mallow, giant Chinese silver grass, Amur silver grass and prairie cordgrass. Biomass from perennial crops obtained at arable lands can be processed into solid fuel as wood chips or wood pallets. Methods of producing this kind solid fuel are known and available on the market
