The aim of the research was determination of grain plumpness, seeds health, germinability and vigour, chemical components and weight of 1000 kernels of naked and husked varieties of spring barley. The studies showed that barley seeds were infected by numerous fungi. Among them the saprophytic fungi: Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium spp. as well as pathogens: Bipolaris sorokiniana and Fusarium spp. were determined. The analysis also showed that naked seeds were only lightly infected. The highest content of protein and tle lowest content of strach was observed in naked seeds. However the germinability and vigour of naked seeds were the same as for husked ones
