A field study was carried out based on the static experiment in 2004-05. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of tillage systems: conventional and direct drilling and cover crops on soil physical properties. The analysis of selected physical soil properties at the beginning and at the end of maize vegetation periods was done. The results showed significant influence of tillage system on soil compaction. Cover crops have no significant influence on soil compaction. Higher soil temperature was observed after tillage then after direct drilling, however cover crops decrease soil temperature comparing to control object
