An essential role of working dogs as well as the ways of their exploitation for human needs are presented. In order to prepare dogs for work and train them properly, one should, know the dogs nature, the level of psychological development and especially - the efficiency of their sensory organs. Dogs training, on itself, bases on induction - through the appropriate sensory impressions - of imaginary effects, which imply the behaviour expected by men. During the training the congenital instincts of dogs are either developed or suppressed. Dogs exploited by humans should originate from well recognized breeding centers, in which animals are genetically improved by means of selectiopn, mate selection, methods of mating and cross-breeding. In choosing the material for raising, an appropriate evaluation and selection of breeders, e.g. the evaluation of youngsters, should be carried out. The latter should consider such traits as equalization of litters at birth, the results of evaluation of exterior of parents, the fecundity and fertility of parents. The activity described above aims at breeding success, i.e. at obtaining the best progenies, the characters of which will be favourable in the future work of men
