Actinometric measurements have been carried by the Dept. of Climatology, Jagiellonian University in Cracow and in Gaik-Brzezowa since the 1960s. These measurements have allowed estimation on the impact of air pollution in urban areas, for the incoming solar radiation at the Earth's surface. The measurements of solar irradiance from both stations in the years 1966-75 (traditional measurements) and 2004 (automatic measurements were compared. In the first period, very high air pollution levels occurred in Cracow, while in 2004 the pollution was much smaller. In the first period the station Gaik-Brzezowa was located in a river valley and in 2004 it was already placed on a flattened hilltop near the Dobczyce Water Reservoir
