At present, in Serbia there are 20 laboratories for seed testing: Laboratory for Seed Testing - Jugoinspekt, Belgrade; National Laboratory for Seed Testing, Novi Sad; and Laborarory for Seed Testing, Institute of Maize Zemun Polje, Belgrade - Zemun, accredited according to SRPS, ISO IEC 17025 (YUAT) and ISTA accreditation standards. International seed trade i.e. export of seed is undistributed in Serbia thanks to ISTA accredited laboratories. Verified methods are used for determination of physiological and biochemical traits, and seed health testing. The above mentioned tests provide a better information on the seed quality, which is the firm foundation for improvement of breeding programs, and improved quality control in the process of seed production.
