Leaf spot and early blight caused by Alternaria solani

Leaf spot and early blight is economically the most important disease of tomato. Disease is caused by plant pathogenic fungus, and the symptoms of intensive leaf spot on older leaves may be very intensive so that if left uncontrolled plants can soon become defoliated. Fungus also causes fruit rot, collar rot of seedlings and stem lesions of older plants. The hlamidospores play important role in inoculum preserving and spreading, as well as seed transmitting. Disease management should be integrated, including cultural control, growing resistant cultivars and foliar fungicide application. TOM-CAST system of disease forecasting proved to be efficient in fungicide spraying reduction and should be tested in the conditions of tomato growing regions of Serbia.
