The aim of the paper was to based on the analysis of yield and yield components choose genotypes with differences in the characteristics examined in order to use them in further investigations as the starting material for hybridization for the purpose of increasing the seed yield potential. In five selected alfalfa genotypes the following was analyzed: the number of inflorescences per stem, the number of pods per inflorescence, the number of grains per pod and seed yield per plant as well as seed quality parameters (1000-grain weight, germination energy, germination and hard-grain percentage).
