Preliminary studies of resistance of the weed Sinapis arvensis L. to 2,4-D herbicides
2008
Baeva, G., Plant Protection Institute, Kostinbrod (Bulgaria)
The aim of the present research was to determine the extent of resistance of Sinapis arvensis to the 2,4-D herbicide and to study the main morphological differences between susceptible (S) and resistant (R) biotypes of the weed. Sinapis arvensis seeds from plants that survived treatment in wheat fields (some of them were treated for a long time with herbicides based on 2,4-D) and plants from an untreated area were included. Glasshouse pot experiments were conducted at the Institute of Plant Protection, Kostinbrod (Bulgaria), during 2007 to evaluated the response of the R and S biotypes to the herbicide. Morphological differences between R and S biotypes were determined following soil treatment with progressive doses of the herbicide (0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0; 2.5 kg a.i./ha). The results show clearly that the surviving R plants produced more seeds than the S biotype of Sinapis arvensis; the R biotype also produced more above-ground biomass.
