Weed vegetation in winter wheat crop and efficacy of different herbicides were examined. The investigation was conducted in the field either on hydromorphous black soil or chernozem under the agro-ecological conditions of southern Banat during 2006 and 2007. Significant differences in terms of quality and quantity of weedness of wheat crops were found on the examined sites. A total of 95 weed species were detected in wheat on hydromorphous black soil, and their abundance ranged from 0.2 to 8.7/square meter, while fewer species, 37.8 were found on the chernozem soil type with an abundance of 0.5-6/square meter. The investigated herbicide combinations showed different levels of efficacy in controlling weeds by reducing the number of species, number of individual plants or weed biomass per area unit. The results show that adequate herbicide combinations and high control efficacy in conditions of high weedness of wheat crop can only be achieved by appropriate evaluation of weedness in terms of the spectar of activity of any particular herbicide combination.
