Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) in Slovenia: Evaluation of serology
2004
Valencak, Z., Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Veterinary Fac.
Between 1995 and 2003, 27,925 pig sera were tested for PRRS virus antibodies using the Herd Check ELISA test (IDEXX) to determine the PRRS status of pig herds in Slovenia. The prevalence of seropositive samples was low and annually ranged from 1 to 7 % and the average hovered between 2 and 3 %. No clinical signs associated with a PRRS viral infection have been reported by any of the farms. Under field conditions, false positives with this assay may run up to 3 %. Based on the absence of clinical signs, the recorded levels of false positives associated with the assay and the persistently low frequency of serological signs, the presence of PRRS can not be determined.
