Heterogeneity of andosols and their classification
Kobza, J.(Vyskumny ustav podoznalectva a ochrany pody, Bratislava (Slovak Republic))
Some properties of Andosols have been studied on the example of three soil profiles (Kalamarka under Polana mountain, Sitno-the highest hill of Stiavnicke vrchy and Sucha hora - Kremnicke vrchy mountains). Some chemical properties (pH/H2, pH/KCl, content of oxidizable carbon, total nitrogen, available phosphorus and potassium as well as fractional composition of phosphorus and potassium, crystallic and amorphous iron and aluminium in dithionite extract and physical properties (mechanical composition, bulk density) have been analysed. On the basis of obtained results it may be said that Andosols are deep and humous soils with low value of bulk density (=0.9 g per cubic cm), acid with very low content of available phosphorus and potassium. he most typical Andosols in central part of the Slovak Republic is more possible to be found in forest land than in agricultural land, or in soils which are situated out of forest. These dark soils with their properties can be described more as Ando-humic (mollic) Cambisols from genetic point of view. It is shown that Andosolsare older soils as it was originally presupposed.
