Personal bibliographic software is a specialized type of software designed for the managing of bibliographic references. It is also known as personal bibliographic databases or bibliographic database managers. There is a number of different software applications on the market. They have some features in common (manual cataloguing of bibliographic references or downloading from external information sources, searching capabilities, ability to create bibliographies in a variety of citation styles) but there are also differences between them. ProCite, EndNote and Reference Manager are popular and well-know programs in scientific circles, OBDPRO is widespread in the Czech Republic. InfoBase is software package used to manage bibliographic records at the Research Station Opočno. It was originally in-house developed software. It offers easy way to input bibliographic data, there is also a possibility of importing citations from TREECD or creating new import filter for on-line databases. Searching capabilities include the use of Boolean operators, word truncation and ability to define specific field to search. Export references in different formats is possible too but it is dependent on the rough structure of bibliographic record. Bibliographic records from all personal databases in the Research Station were exported to one set of records and new database was created. It is called Bibliographic Database of Silviculture, it contains about 15,000 of records and it covers all aspects of silviculture in the Central Europe. The database is used for searching bibliographic information.
