Selected economic parameters of the SR and EU food industry

The contribution deals with the development of the SR food industry position pursuant to basic indicators of the SR economy. According to determined results, a decrease of the share in GDP of the SR national economy persists. It is focused on structural changes that are measured by indicators of production, employment and the number of enterprises according to production branches of the SR food industry. Since 2004 farmers have made a profit. In 1999-2004 the food industry improved its profit/loss by 2.5 billion SKK due to sugar industry enterprises. Milk industry enterprises worsened its profit/loss. The comparison of food and alcoholic beverages production between the EU and the SR indicates that in the EU food industry (similarly as in the SR) dominates a huge number of small and middle-scale enterprises and labour productivity and value added is massed in large-scale enterprises.
