The aim of this study was to compare the three-line buildings for free stall rearing of the cows with a closed breeding cycle on their technical and economical characteristics: relative built-up area, the volume and the input of basic building materials (concrete and steel) for the construction of the technological profile of the floor. Four technological variants of the buildings were compared – for 40, 60, 80 and 100 cows together with the female replacements aged from 3 to 27 months and the male calves from 3 to 6 months. It was found that the variant with 100 cows was economically more effective in comparison to the other variants for the studied characteristics: relative expenses for concrete, reinforcement and profile steel for the technological profile of the floor of the whole building and for the characteristics for the different cattle categories – lactating cows and heifers. Concerning the relative input of profile steel this variant was more economical for the calves of the age from 3 to 6 months. The variant for 60 cows was with very good characteristics, it was more economical than the variants for 40 and 80 cows, and in terms of relative built-up area and volume of the building it was more economical than the variant with 100 cows as well. The variant with 60 cows was the most economical for the relative built-up areas and volume for the lactating cows and for the calves from 3 to 6 months and from 12 to 18 months, for relative input for the profile of the floor: of the concrete and reinforcement steel (for calves from 3 to 18 months), for profile steel (for calves from 6 to 12 months) and for all the studied characteristics – for the dry cows cattle category. It was found that the capacity had a negligible effect (with 1-2%) on the share of the cattle categories in the total built-up area and the input of materials for the floor profile with the exception of the share of the heifers and the calves from 6-12 months of age (with differences up to 7% in the input of concrete and steel).
