The genome of Bluetongue virus in laboratory and field samples were detected by molecular biological tests as convertional RT-PCR and real time. The conventional RT-PCR and rRT PCR methods are capable to detect all 24 serotypes of blue tongue virus using 2 different probe/primer sets and cover the genetic difference between ”eastern” and ”western” viral serotypes circulating in Europe. BTV reference strains supplied from WRL, IAH, Pibright, UK were used to validate the tests and assay performance.
