[Estimation of the initial material of world collection VIR for selection of pumpkin of portion type of under conditions of Belarus]

Results of an estimation of an initial material of world collection VIR (All-Russia Institute of Plant Industry named after N.I.Vavilov) for breeding of pumpkin of portion type on productivity, biological and morphological signs and quality are presented. As a result of conducted research on studying of pumpkin collection genetical valuable sources of yields, bushiness, quantity of fruit tissue, carotin content were revealed. Varieties possessing by portial size and fruit of high quality were found out. Involving of described examples into selective process with the aim of hybridization will allow to expand gene pool of initial material for breeding of pumpkin of portion type. In research the flavouring qualities of tissue were defined by organoleptic method, and the carotin content – by visual (on colouring of tissue) and biochemical one. By results of organoleptic estimations the following grades possessed the best flavouring qualities of tissue of a fruit (5 points): at large fruit pumpkins Crumb, Arina, Smile, at hard peel pumpkins Golden Nugget and Small Sugar. Results of a visual and biochemical estimation of carotin content in many respects were identical. Large fruit pumpkins were characterised by the greatest content of carotin at grade Arina (20 mg/100 g), Smile (29,7 mg/100 g), Squach golden nugget (14,2 mg/100 g), at hard peel pumpkins the orange colouring of tissue of a fruit and the high content of carotin are revealed at grades Golden nugget (2,3 mg/100 g) and Small Sugar (2,9 mg/100 g)
