Research of the influence of mulching methods of sod-podzolic average loamy soil level on contamination, growth and development, yielding capacity and seed quality of seed plantings of carrot (Daucus carota L.) and red beet (Beta vulgaris L.) grown in the conditions of the Repiblic of Belarus was realized. Research results showed that application of mulching materials caused the changes in soil physical properties. Mulching with wood shavings and straw promoted the increasing of soil moisture on 4,5-4,8%. After application black film and spunbond soil moisture corresponded to the control variant and was 16,8% and 17,5%, respectively. Black film and spunbond lowered the soil penetration index on 5%. Application of wood shavings and straw caused the lowering of soil penetration on 36,3-23,8% (6,1-7,6 kg/square cm) in comparison with the control variant. Mulching of carrot and red beet seed seedlings black film and spunbond promoted the lowering of weed number and mass on 90,0-99,0%. Wood shavings mulching of carrot seed seedlings promoted the increasing of seed yielding capacity on 28,2% (7,9 c/ha). Mulching with wood shavings, black film and spunbond increased seed germinating ability on 6,0%, 8,4% and 11%, respectively. Straw mulching caused the lowering of carrot seed germination. Application of black film and spunbond promoted the increasing of red beet yielding capacity on 26,5% and 17,6%, respectively
