[The contemporary stage of biology development in Belarus (to the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus)]

Review of the 80-year development of the biological science in the Republic of Belarus, its progress and peculiar national features was presented. Activity of the Department of Biological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and its research organizations was analyzed. In the XX – beginning of the XXI centuries the major part of the researches were realized in the field of general biology, genetics, botany, zoology and ecology and their relations with preservation of biological diversity, environment protection, selection and breeding of agricultural crops. For example, in the Institute of Genetics and Cytology there were developed the theoretical bases in the field of heterosis and polyploidy; in the Institute of Experimental Botany there was realized the revision and analysis of the systematic composition, geographic and ecological structure of the national flora, there was given the evaluation of the biological diversity of the national flora; in the Institute of Forest there was developed the complex of technological measures for the creation of forest seed and selection base; in the Scientific and Practical Center for Bioresources there was developed the national strategy of the development of the system of the environmentally protected or sensitive areas. The Scientific and Practical Center for Bioresources is the only in the Republic institution which realizes the assessment and monitoring of animal biodiversity in Belarus, realizes the research of endo- and ectoparasites, parasite cenosis, rational use of game species, realizes the creation, functioning and development of system of especially protected areas and national ecological network. Review of the current researches, investigations and studies realized by the affiliated institutes the Scientific and Practical Center for Bioresources was presented.
