Data about ash content of sphagnum peat, chemical composition of its macro- and microelements, obtained when examining samples of peal (850 samples) selected on large peat regions, which are considered as the main raw material bases for industrial quarrying of peat are presented. It is shown that sphagnum peat, present in the main large deposits of top layer type, is a low-ash peal deposit. Its mineral part is presented by 99% of macroelements with prevalence of silicon, aluminium and calcium, including iron, potassium and sulphur and to a smaller degree-other macroelements. In the content of microelements there prevail oxides of manganese, zinc and titanium. Depending on the region and the profile of lying, separate macro- and microelements are distributed unevenly. The presence of macro- and microelements should be taken into account when planning practical usage of such a peat, including preparation of hothouse ground and special substrates
