Grain yield stability of large seeded bean (phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes in Southwestern Ethiopia

In the 1999 and 2000 main cropping season 16 large seeded bean genotypes were evaluated in three mid-high altitude environments objectively to estimate their interaction with the environment and stability parameters. The design used was RCBD in three replications. The result indicated that, individual analysis of variance was significant for each trait in all the locations except for days to maturity at Gera in both years. Combined analysis of variance detected highly significant difference for genotypes, environments and G x E interactions. Joint regression analyses also revealed that both linear and non-linear type of G x E interactions were significant (p ¡Ü 0.01). Genotypes g-1023 and G-2816 gave the highest mean yield of 3027 kg ha sup(-1) and 2908 kg ha sup(-1). Other two genotypes i.e., G-13654 and G-3324 were found to be the most adaptable genotypes with significantly above average mean yield.
