Association analysis in food barley (Hordeum vulare L.) in moisture stress areas of Northeastern Ethiopia

A field experiment consisting of 214 barley genotypes was conducted in 2001/02 at Geregera to determine the interrelationship of yield components among themselves and with yield in food barley. Fourteen characters were considered. An examination of correlation analysis reveals that kernel yield/plant showed highly significant and positive correlation with number of tillers/plant, spike weight/plant, biological yield/plant number of spikers/plant, spike length, kernel weight/spike, number of kernels/spike, single spike weight and spike indix. It had positive but non-significant correlation with plant height, days to heading days to maturity and 1000 kernel weight. Path analysis showed the positive direct and significant effect of spike index, kernel weight/spike, spike weight/plant and number of spikers/plant on kernel yield/plant.
