Direct, cumulative and residual effect of NPK fertilizer on grain yield and yield attributes of wheat (var. sonalika) under jute-rice-wheat cropping system in a gangetic alluvial soil

An experiment with wheat (var. Sonalika) was conducted for five consecutive years under jute - rice - wheat cropping sequence in a Gangetic alluvial soil to evaluate the cumulative and residual effect of applied NPK besides direct application on wheat grain yield and yield attributes. The initial soil available status of N, P and K were 255, 13.5 and 211 kg/ha respectively. The replicated experiment showed that the wheat grain yield was much influenced by direct application of nutrients followed by cumulative and residual nutrients. The regression analysis of yield and yield attributes suggested that plant population at max. tillering phase and grain content of effective panicle are essential for achieving the good and sustained yield besides nutrients.
