Evaluation of eight - Row self propelled rice transplanter in farmers' field for adoption in Orissa

Attempts were made to evaluate the 8-row self propelled rice tranplanter, model 2ZT-238-8, manufactured by Yanji Rice Transplanter Plant (Peoples' Republic of China) in order to popularize it among the rice farmers of Orissa through field demonstration-cum-research. Machine transplanting not only removed the drudgery inherent in manual transplanting but also economized labour and transplanting was completed in time. A plant population of 33-36 hills/m2 was achieved but this transplanter with 2-5 tillers/hill. The missing hill percentage was less than 10 . the field capacity of the transplanter was in the range of 0.123-0.135 ha/h, i.e., 7.4. to 8.13 h/ha.
