We investigated the effects of end-of-the-day red and far-red light on the plant growth, flowering and inflorescence architecture of sunflowers. In the spring experiment, end-of-day far-red (EOD-FR) light promoted flowering, reduced stem length and decreased the number of ray and tubulous flowers, while end-of-day red (EOD-R) light suppressed flowering and increased stem length and the number of ray and tubulous flowers. There was similar tendency in the summer experiment but the degree of the effects was small due to hot temperature in the greenhouse.
