The relationships between the growth of cryptomeria and the site factor in Himi hill [Toyama, Japan]
2001
Zushi, K.(Toyama-ken. Forestry and Forest Products Research Center, Imizu (Japan))
The relationships between the site factor and the growth of cryptomeria were investigated in 24 stands at Myougodani, Himi city. The growth of cryptomeria on this site was generally good, and the site index was 23.5 on average. When the site indexes were compared based on the slope position, the index of the upper slope was lower than the midslope. However, no difference was observed in the index between the midslope and the lower slope. In the midslope and the lower slope, the site index changed according to the slope gradient, and the index was low on the steep slope and high on the gentle slope. The reason was that the soil water moved rapidly downslope on the steep slope, and the soil was dry. Moreover, at this site, the soil clay content of the soil in the steep slope was low. Therefore it was thought that the water holding capacity and the nutrient availability were also low.
