The new wheat variety 'Nishinokaori' was released as a recommended variety in Kyoto Prefecture in 2003. The agricultural characteristics of 'Nishinokaori' are as follows; 1) The culm length is slightly shorter than that of 'Norin 61', and the lodging resistance is superior to that of 'Norin 61'. 2) The Heading date and the date of maturity are 2 or 3 days earlier than of 'Norin 61'. 3) 'Nishinokaori' has a shorter spike than 'Norin 61' and has a 10% lower yield. 4) The visual grain quality is similar to that of 'Norin 61'. The protein content of the flour is higher than that of 'Norin 61' and the bread-making quality is higher than that of 'Norin 61'. For establishing the cultivating methods to produce high yielding and high quality of the new wheat variety 'Nishinokaori'. Results obtained were summarized as follows; 1) The most suitable seeding time is 11/10-11/20 and the most suitable seeding rate is 5-7kg/10a. 2) For high yielding and high quality, it is an effective method to topdress nitrogen fertilizer 2-3kg/10a at panicle formation stage and 3kg/10a at floret differentiation stage with 8kg/10a at basal dressing. 3) Top dressing on flowering stage is effective on increase of grain protein content, but it brings decrease visual grain quality. The most suitable additional fertilizer is 2kg/10a at flowering stage.
