Teachers' views on the differentiation of primary school children
2009
Guseva, V., Daugavpils Univ. (Latvia)
Inclusion of children with special needs in the comprehensive schools in Latvia, as well as in Daugavpils becomes the most distinct issue. The author of the present article suggests one of the possible practical solutions – differentiation of primary school learners according to their abilities, that would provide for determining the special needs of learners and individualized support they need. The article is based on a pilot research. Within its framework, a questionnaire was piloted with the aim of improving the questionnaire form for teachers that is necessary for the further basic research of the problems teachers most often face in the process of differentiating learners. The author of the present article considers that the study of these problems would facilitate the provision of the support for teachers in further education course content. The pilot research involves 24 teachers who work at Daugavpils schools teaching primary school learners with special needs.
