2005
Priekulis, J. | Latvietis, J.
The aim of the research was to clarify the efficiency of the usage of cold cowshwds in the present economic situation of Latvia and in the nearest future when the production cost level existing in the EU developed countries will be established. The introduction of cold cowsheds is economically profitable in Latvia as for the building of such sheds and supply with the necessary technological equipment is required about two times less capital investments. The advantages of coldsheds will be especially seen in the future when the milk production costs in Latvia will be close to the level existing in the developed EU countries. Production of milk in heated cowsheds may become unprofitable were there are less than 50 cows and they are kept tied. With the introduction of the production cost level of the developed countries of the UE in Latvia the salaries for workers will groww considerably. Therefore it will be economically profitable to reduce the number of people working in animal breeding up-dating the production technology and using the mechanization and automatization more widely.
