Lacto-aceto-orcein squash preparations of Carnoy's fixed testicular tissues of the male black bug, Scotinophara sp., sampled from Sorsogon province were cytogenetically analyzed. Spermatocytes at diakinesis showed haploid chromosome number (n) of either 7 or 6. Karyotype formula of male Scotinophara sp. is 2n=6IIA + XO=14 or 13. It is heterogametic or the XO sex-determining mechanism produces two types of sperm cells. Pachytene chromosome lengths ranged from 12 micro m to 22 micro m, relative lengths ranged from 0.10 to 0.20 X-chromosome was the shortest (12 micro m). Meiotic indices ranged from 85 to 94 percent.
